DU CUET Subject Combination 2026: Course-Wise Eligibility

• Subject Limit: For 2026, candidates can choose upto 5 subjects (including languages and the General Aptitude Test).
• The Class 12 Rule: You must choose subjects in CUET that you appeared for in your Class 12 Board exams.
• Language Requirement: Most courses require at least one language from List A. 
• The List System: DU categorizes domain subjects into List B1 (Core subjects) and List B2 (Vocational/Elective subjects).

As per CUET UG 2026 Bulletin of Information: 

Section I – List A: Languages

• DU recognizes 33 languages in List A. 
• For most courses, you need to pick at least one. 
• English or Hindi are the most common picks for students targeting mainstream courses like BCom or BSc.

Section II – Domain Subjects

These are divided into two lists:

• List B1 (18 Subjects): Includes core academic subjects like Accountancy, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, and Sociology.
• List B2 (9 Subjects): Includes subjects like Agriculture, Engineering Graphics, Entrepreneurship, Fine Arts, Knowledge Tradition & Practices of India, Mass Media, and Physical Education.

Pro Tip: Most DU courses usually require you to choose at least two subjects from List B1. Your third domain subject can be from either B1 or B2.

Section III – General Ability Test(GAT)

GAT is not compulsory for most courses but necessary for a few professional courses like BMS, BBA-FIA, BBE, and Journalism.

Syllabus Includes : 
General Knowledge, Current Affairs, General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, Quantitative Reasoning, and Logical & Analytical Reasoning, testing awareness of national/international events, basic math concepts (arithmetic, algebra, geometry), and logical puzzles

DU follows a strict pattern in Subject Combination for each program. Select paper scrupulously as per the guidelines

BA (Hons.) - Humanities & Social Sciences

For most BA Honours programs (History, Pol Science, Sociology, etc.) or most B.A programs, DU follows a 1 + 3 or 2 + 2 formula.

• Combination I: Any one Language from List A + Any three subjects from List B 
• Combination II: Any two Languages from List A + Any two subjects from List B

BSc Subject Combinations – Science Stream Based

Science courses at DU are on Merit and are based on the best CUET score from the valid combination for your course.

DU BCom & Business-Related Combinations

BCom (Hons.) is the most sought-after course. You have two ways to get in:

1. Combination 1: 1 Language + Mathematics + Any 2 Domains.
2. Combination 2: 1 Language + Accountancy + Any 2 Domains.

For BMS / BBA-FIA / B.A. (Hons) Business Economics :

 1 Language + Mathematics + 1 Domain from List B + General Aptitude Test (GAT).

1. List your Class 12 Subjects: You cannot deviate from your subject list.
2. Identification of  your Target Course: You must know does it require Mathematics (like in Eco Hons or BCom Hons)?
3. Checking the 1+3 Rule: Ensure you have 1 Language and at least 3 Domains from your school class 11-12th stream.
4. Add GAT as a Safety Net: You ought to select the General Test to keep chances for professional and vocational courses open.
5. Verify via the CSAS Portal: Before final submission, cross-check the DU UG Bulletin of Information 2026. Or refer to our blog for better clarity

• Selecting Subjects NOT in Class 12: This is the #1 reason for rejection.
• Ignoring Mathematics: Many students realize too late that Economics Hons and BCom Hons require Maths/Accountancy in CUET.
• Skipping the Language Paper: You cannot get into DU without appearing for at least one language.
• Assuming GAT is only for BBA: It can be a tie-breaker and eligibility opener for many B.A. Programs or other professional courses as well as other Universities apart from DU.
